The reason why many warehouses use high-rise shelves is to reduce floor
space and improve warehouse utilization. This also means that the width design
of the high-rise shelves in the warehouse is important. If the spacing is too
large, it will waste warehouse space, and if the spacing is too small, it will
cause problems with the flow of goods. So, what is the standard spacing for
high-rise shelves?
Unlike civilian shelves and storage racks, high-rise shelves, whether used
in warehouses of production enterprises or logistics centers, generally carry a
huge amount of goods. This three-dimensional and high-level storage method
provides basic services for production and logistics. The spacing design between
high-rise shelves is a key link in ensuring the safe use of storage shelves and
affecting the production and circulation process. According to experience, there
is no standard distance between high-rise shelves in warehouse shelves, which
depends on the actual situation, including the items placed on the shelves, the
tools used for retrieval, such as the turning distance required for forklifts,
to determine:
1. If all manual handling operations are carried out, the distance between
storage locations should be greater than the width of the large packaging boxes
used on the storage locations+20cm;
2. If pallets need to be placed at the bottom of the storage location, the
upper layer will be manually transported, and the distance between storage
locations is the rotatable diameter of "manual forklift+pallets"+20cm;
3. If the storage location requires electric forklift transportation, the
distance between the storage locations is the rotatable diameter of the
"electric forklift+upper pallet"+turning safety distance;
4. If there is a forklift, it usually depends on the model: if it is a
domestically produced large forklift, it will take about 4 meters; If it is a
small forklift or only a hydraulic trailer, 2.5 meters to 3 meters is
enough.
