The reason why many warehouses use high-rise shelves is to reduce floor
space and improve warehouse utilization. This also means that the height design
of the high-level shelves in the warehouse is very important. If the height is
too high, it will cause problems with the flow of goods, and if the height is
too low, it will waste storage space. So, what are the heights of high-level
shelves?
Among many types of shelves, some are a few meters high, some are tens of
meters high, and even tens of meters high. The different structures, heights,
and adaptability determine their different uses. Generally speaking, we refer to
storage shelves larger than 10 meters and above as high-rise shelves, which have
unique advantages in large-scale and specialized warehousing operations in
manufacturing and logistics transportation industries.
High rise shelving warehouses in foreign countries generally have a height
of over 10m, with some reaching up to 30m. In China, it is generally above 10
meters, but currently most three-dimensional warehouses use high-rise shelves
around 18 meters.
High rise shelves will not collapse due to excessive height, and the shelf
area is fixed with dense expansion bolts. However, it is worth mentioning that
the safety of high-rise shelves has always been criticized by warehouse
management personnel. The following is a summary of the safety hazards and
countermeasures of high-rise shelves:
1. Falling objects in the air: The height of the top fence crossbar of the
high-rise shelves is above and below 40cm, which cannot completely block large
volumes of goods. Improper placement of goods can lead to such hidden dangers.
In addition, if the shelf height exceeds the normal height, the weight of stored
goods will be large, and falling objects can cause casualties.
2. Accidental collision with shelves: During forklift operation, blind
spots may appear, and dense pillars may block the view. Forklift workers may
accidentally hit the safety stakes of the shelves, and if the safety stakes
become loose over time, they may hit the pillars of the shelves.
3. Fire protection design is difficult and the fire protection effect is
not good: the height of the shelves themselves almost occupies the height of the
warehouse, and the coverage area of the top fire sprinkler is small, which poses
a safety hazard.
4. There is no supporting forklift for operation: ordinary heavy-duty
shelves will use forklifts to transport goods, while high-rise shelves will use
standing forklifts to transport goods to higher places. However, forklifts are
not produced in conjunction with the shelf factory, and their stability during
use is poor, which can lead to spraying and easy tipping crisis.
